Guide for contributors

The OxPol blog prioritises submissions from contributors affiliated with the Department of Politics and International Relations or the University of Oxford. This includes current/former students and current/former professors, fellows, or researchers. Oxford-affiliated contributors may co-author pieces with non-Oxford individuals. Individuals not affiliated with Oxford may also be solicited to contribute to our special series or to submit analyses of current events.

Contributions may vary in length. Shorter opinion pieces (e.g. analyses of current events, book reviews) should be between 800 and 1,000 words. Longer, analytical pieces can be up to 2,000 words (e.g. abridged versions of academic journal articles).

We are particularly interested in promoting recent research and academic commentary on topical issues in the world of politics. Contributors are encouraged to include relevant images, links, tables and figures.

Our editorial guidelines give further details of what we are looking for in a draft article.

To submit an article, please contact our editorial team. While our OxPol Blog editorial team will consider full submissions, we ask that you send us your pitch first. For more details on how to submit a pitch, please click here.

For Oxford-based academics, we are also happy to cross-post articles from elsewhere.

Editorial policy

OxPol has a small team of editors who accept proposals/submissions and proofread the text. We may request changes and additions. Due to resource constraints, submissions that require substantial editing will be returned to the author for revision. We will not publish articles until the author has approved the final text.
